Abstract: Abstract only. Cork Harbour, a sea inlet with heavy shipping traffic, was examined to determine the extent of TBT contamination, by means of imposex and intersex in the dogwhelk Nucella lapillus and the periwinkle Littorina littorea. Both indicator species were consistent in the patterns of TBT contamination, i.e. contamination in the western part of Cork Harbour was greater than the eastern side, reflecting tidal movement of water and the position of ships' berths. Also, contamination levels declined with distance from harbour.
