Abstract: The distribution and abundance of Bottle-nosed Dolphins Tursiops truncatus in the Shannon Estuary was determined by photo-identification, fixed boat transects, scan sampling, minimum number estimates, and the collection of incidental sightings (May 1993-November 1994). The implications of commercial dolphin watching in the Shannon Estuary are discussed.
