Abstract: Paper compares the diet of ballan wrasse Labrus bergylta with that of corkwing wrasse Crenilabrus melops. The ballan wrasse were sampled between April and July in Galway Bay (99 specimens) and between April and June in Dinard, France (95 specimens). The Irish ballan wrasse were analysed and sampled from the same six locations in Galway Bay as previously reported for the corkwings (JMBA 75(3):635-649). The results are divided into the following headings: composition of diet, diet and fish size, monthly variation in diet, diet and sex, diet of ballan and corkwing compared and diet of ballan and corkwing captured simultaneously at the same site.
