Abstract: Abstract only. Dinophysistoxin-2 (DTX-2), an isomer of okadaic acid, was the major diarrhetic shellfish poisoning (DSP) toxin during infestations in cultivated mussels along the south-west coast of Ireland in 1991 and 1994. Wide variations have been observed in toxin levels with mussels from neighbouring sites and different depths. The abstract describes methods for demonstrating the presence of DTX-2 in shellfish and mentions that an ELISA method suitable for screening this toxin has been validated, allowing for rapid DSP screening of shellfish.
