Abstract: Decapods were collected from Clare Island, the shores of Clew Bay, and from dredged material to a depth of 20 fathoms in Clew Bay. Further material was collected from Blacksod Bay and Ballynakill Harbour. Some burrowing and rare species were missed. The wider global distribution of the recorded species is described, and there are three distributional groups. A greater number of southern forms were found; this was attributed to the warm current of Atlantic water moving up the west of Ireland. There were less species of a northern distribution and a number of species whose distribution was centred mainly on the British Isles. Most species were widely distributed within Ireland though there was a record of Eupagurus pubescens previously unknown on the west coast. A complete species list is presented with the place of collection and their wider global occurrence.
