Abstract: This paper reviews the conservation status (as of 1990) of Areas of Scientific Interest (ASI) or otherwise designated areas (e.g. Nature Reserves, Special Protected Areas) on the Irish Sea coast of the Republic of Ireland. As of 1990 there were no underwater ASI's or designated areas. The coastal fringe, intertidal and underwater habitats between Carlingford Lough and Hook Head, and with the 50 m depth contour are outlined.
