Abstract: Abstract only. The Pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas) was introduced to Ireland for mariculture. Triploid organisms are theoretically sterile and could be used to reduce the risk of non-native species becoming naturalised. This paper describes a trial where diploid and triploid growth, mortality and gonad development were compared over a two year period.
