Abstract: Abstract only. Between 1992 - 1994 one of the most frequently stranded cetacean species along the Irish coast was the common dolphin Delphinus delphis. Most strandings occurred along the south and south-west coast, with highest numbers usually recorded in January/February. Food remains in all the stomachs (18 males and 18 females) was examined. Fish species were the main food item, followed by cephalopod species.
