Abstract: Thirty-three species of water bears, Arctiscoida, were collected from Clare Island and Achill Island. One species, Echiniscoides sigismundi, was the first marine species of Arctiscoida to be found in the British Isles, and was found amongst sediment washed from seaweed. A further new maritime species, Macrobiotus richtersii, was collected from the salt marsh on Clare Island and a variety of this form was found amongst Tortula ruralis on a sandy shore. A list of the species collected is presented with notes on habitat, wider geographical distribution, and some taxonomic detail and illustrations of the new species.
