Abstract: The results of the Clare Island Survey from Blacksod Bay to High Island, with the seaward boundary at 50 fathoms, are presented with a list of the species collected and an indication of their local distribution. A description of the physical features of the collection site is included, mainly noting the type of substratum. Records from other surveys within the area are noted to give a comprehensive species list, including 249 species of polychaetes. Two new genera, Prageria and Thelepides, 16 new species, and two new varieties were found. There were 36 records of species new to the British marine area. This was an extensive survey, the likes of which had not been undertaken in the British Isles, or within any other limited area at the time. Descriptions and illustrations of the new species are presented.
