Abstract: This paper provides an overview of the trawl fishery in the North Sea, including a description and history of the industry, life histories, stock depletion, and a discussion on proposed measures to remedy destruction of immature fish. Particular emphasis is placed on flatfish, and comparisons made throughout with other UK and Irish fisheries.
