Abstract: Analysis of grab samples from shallow-water and communities (0-6m) in the northern Irish Sea showed that there was an increase in the diversity and abundance of Amphipod species westwards. The geographical distribution was determined by the inter action of physical factors such as temperature, bottom sediment and pollution. Bathyporeia elegans was the dominent species. Six indicator species were present throughout the community; Bathyporeia gulliamsominana, B. elegans, B. nana, Perioculodes longimanus and Pontocrates arenarius.
