Abstract: The results of a survey of Amphipoda, from Blacksod Bay to Slyne Head and to the 50 fathom line, are presented. Ninety-five species were recorded from a number of surveys of the area. Nineteen species were new records and 35 were new to Ireland. The fauna were collected by dredging and shore collections, and in the harbours and shallow waters by tow netting at night. The wider geographical distribution of the species found was noted, i.e. other records in Norway, the Arctic, America and Europe. A summary table of the distribution of the Clare Island species is included with their north-south extent. Two main groups of Arctic and non-Arctic species were found, where Arctic species extended into the Mediterranean, British Isles and the northeast coast of America, whereas non-Arctic species extended from Norway to the Mediterranean, and the British Isles. A number of species were centred on the British Isles.
