Abstract: Nine hundred thick-lipped grey mullet, Crenimugil (Chelon) labrosus (Risso) from 23 different locations on the Irish coast were examined. The otoliths were used to age mullet up to five years old. The growth of the older mullet was back calculated from their scales. Thick-lipped grey mullet in Irish waters were found to be slow-growing, long lived and probably late maturing fish.
