Abstract: This paper gives a brief description of the types of impacts which can arise from six main groups of activity, namely (1) harvesting naturally occurring living resources (2) cultivation of living resources (3) extraction of non-living resources (4) waste disposal (5) use of coastal land, and (6) use of water space. In addition, a more detailed consideration of effects they appear to have had on habitats and communities on the Irish Sea coast are discussed.
