Abstract: A record of marine mites belonging to the family Halacaridae, collected during the Clare Island Survey. Freshwater mites were also collected and in greater numbers. The marine species were collected from dredgings in Clew Bay but mainly by shore collections. A number of species were found below the high water mark, mainly under stones and in crevices. Some semi-terrestrial species were also recorded at the strand line. The list of species collected describes the place of collection, habitat and their wider global distribution. Descriptive detail and illustrative plates of new species are included for identification purposes.
