Abstract: (1) This report describes the results of the 1992 survey of rocky shore biota at five transects at South Queensferry, Firth of Forth, on shores between Long Craig Pier and Hound Point. (2) These shores have been the subject of regular monitoring since 1973, with the objective of assessing environmental effects resulting from Dalmeny/Hound Point Crude Oil Terminal operations, and associated ballast water discharges. (3) During 1992, the shore in the vicinity of Transect 3 has been disturbed by the construction of the pipeline leading to the second loading jetty. Inevitably the shore here has been disturbed, with the lower part of the transect obliterated by debris. (4) The other transects (1,2,4,5) are unaffected by the construction work, and have a flora and fauna very similar to that recorded in earlier years. (5) Apart from the immediate construction effects at Transect 3, there was no evidence of any alteration in the biota, and certainly none that could be ascribed to the operation of the terminal. (6) The shores continue to match comparable east coast of Scotland shores.
