Abstract: The results are given from four widely separate areas of the British Isles of the relationship between size of Echinus esculentus and depth of which it occurs. One of the sites includes combined results from St Abbs, Berwickshire and Newton-by-the-Sea, Northumberland. There is some evidence that, while on western coasts the urchins were larger in deeper water, the reverse is the case for the North Sea site. Samples from the North Sea were measured between 8th May and 16th June 1977.
