Abstract: An historical review of Irish records of Coelenterata is presented. Two hundred and fifty species of hydroids, medusae and sea anemones found in shallow and deep water off the Irish coast are listed. Reference is made to particular species where their distribution extends across the globe, and note is made of some northern, southern and Atlantic forms. Three species of hydroid peculiar to the Irish coast were noted; Perigonimus gelatinosus, P. inflatus and Campanulina turrita.
