Abstract: Surveys and sampling were undertaken in Killary Harbour, Co. Galway using diving. Four macrofaunal assemblages interpreted as facies of the boreal Amphiura community are identified: Ophiothrix fragilis - Melinna palmata; Turritella communis Melinna palmata; Scalibtegma inflatum - Leptosynapta inhaerens; zone of impoverishment with Nephtys hombergii. In addition, there is maerl overlying a muddy bottom and an area at the mouth of the fjord where a Venus striatula community with Acrocnida brachiata dominant. The epifauna of cliff facies is briefly described, with dense colonies of Serpula vermicularis. Special attention is drawn to the distribution of commercial species: Nephrops norvegicus, Pecten maximus and Mytilus edulis.
