Abstract: An account is given of the second expedition by the dredging committee of the Royal Irish Academy in 1886. Collections were made by tow netting and more so by dredging. A specimen of Neomenia was recorded for the first time in Irish waters. Shallow water dredging took place on the coast of Co. Cork in Glandore Harbour and Sullane Bay, and approximately eight miles south of Toe Head. Collections were also made in Lough Hyne where the purple urchin Paracentrotus lividus was recorded. The beauty of the site was noted for further research. Trawling took place in Dursey Sound, 42 miles from Great Skellig and at Ballinaskellig, Co. Kerry. A list of the trawling and dredging sites and note of the interesting species collected is presented. This is an interesting account of scientific investigative work as it was in the 1800's.
