Abstract: The coastline of north-east Ireland is renowned for its magnificent sandy beaches enclosed by dramatic headlands of basalt and chalk. This study combines historical evidence and contemporary observations to assess changes in the coastline. Problems of erosion are discussed. Many are considered to be the consequence of human activities in the coastal zone.
