Abstract: Paper discusses the discovery of the amphipod parasite Scopelocheirus hopei in spiny dogfish, Acanthias vulgaris. It is established that, although it was once thought only to be a scavenger on dead fish, S. hopei can attack living fish successfully and destroys the gills, eye muscles and associated nerves.
