Abstract: This paper is an appreciation to Michael Long of Dingle, Co. Kerry, who contributed significantly to the knowledge of marine fauna of the southwest coast of Ireland. He added 12 invertebrate species to the Irish fauna list. He noted rare drift organisms and extended the known range of several species. He also made floral observations and collected specimens.
