Abstract: Paper gives a preliminary account of the results of the first investigation into marine algae on the south and west coast of Ireland. Halosphaera viridus, a minute algae, was recorded for the first time on the Irish coast. Other searches on the shore at Kilkee and Milltown Malby, Co. Clare found two species of brown algae, Alaria esculenta and a Litosiphon-like plant new to science, which the author named Pogotrichum hibernicum. Other species were also noted.
