Abstract: This short note records the occurrence of an 'immense deposit of Spirialis retroversus...(which) lay along the water mark in a broad band varying in width from three feet to a few inches... (extending) along the beach for about a mile'. The beach in question was on Bartra Island (exposed to the Atlantic) in Killala Bay on the border of counties Mayo and Sligo.
