Abstract: The land on the Co. Down side of Belfast Lough was reclaimed for the construction of a railway track. The resulting physical changes to the landscape are described and the changes in the birdlife, flora and fauna are discussed. The loss of Zostera beds, and the effect of this on the birdlife in particular, is emphasised.
