| Lichens : Acarosporales : Acarosporaceae | Lichens |
Description: This is a pioneer, crustose lichen occurring mostly on artificial habitats such as concrete, and on limestone walls. Although the thallus is barely visible, the tiny (to 1.5mm diam.) chestnut-coloured discs (blacker when dry) iced with a net of pruina, are distinctive. Even when the pruina appears to have been removed, some of the discs or the darker disc edge (exciple) will carry evidence of it. It is relatively common on suitable substrates throughout Ireland.
