Lamiastrum galeobdolon

Description: This stoloniferous herbaceous perennial is commonly grown in gardens for groundcover. It is a native of most of Europe (but not Ireland) and Iran, but is found as a persistent alien on rubbish dumps and waste ground - derived from discarded garden rubbish - and is also naturalised in a few estates or parks, spreading vegetatively, sometimes over large areas.

Most garden and "wild" plants in Northern Ireland belong to subsp. argentatum which is distinguished from other subspecies by the conspicuous white patches on the leaves.

All names: Lamiastrum galeobdolon (L.) Ehrend. & Polatschek; Lamium galeobdolon (L.) L.; Galeobdolon luteum Hudson
