| Plants : Salicaceae | Ferns and Flowering Plants |
Description: This rather local species was lost sight of for many years, but was re-discovered in the Antrim hills and glens in the 1980s, together with hybrids with Salix cinerea subsp. oleifolia. It has subsequently been identified from a few other areas of Northern Ireland. It is somewhat similar to S. cinerea but has the feature of becoming blackish as it ages or dries out (old botanical books refer to this plant as Salix nigricans).
