Description: Celery is familiar to everyone as a culinary vegetable or salad, and is grown for these purposes in vegetable gardens both privately and on a commercial scale. The cultivated varieties have been derived from the wild plant, which in Northern Ireland is a rare species found in a few sites on damp upper seashores and around the mouths of streams where they meet the sea. It is a robust species with umbels of small white flowers and it has some superficial resemblance to the much commoner hemlock water-dropwort (Oenanthe crocata).
