| Epilobium hirsutum |
Description: The most handsome of the Epilobium species; occurring on lowland river and lake-sides in abundance across Northern Ireland. It usually has purple flowers, but populations with a very high proportion of white flowers occur at some sites e.g. in Antrim Bay, Lough Neagh.
Unlike other Epilobium species, it rarely hybridizes: there are no reports of hybrids from Northern Ireland, except for two records of the cross with the small-flowered willowherb (E. parviflorum).
All names: Epilobium hirsutum L.
