| Sarracenia purpurea |
Description: This unusual American species was deliberately introduced to the bogs of Peatlands Park in Co Armagh some years ago, where it proliferated and has become something of a nuisance. The leaves are modified into hollow tubes or "pitchers" which trap and drown insects. The decaying insects act as a source of nitrogen-rich food for the plant.
It is a native of eastern North America.
