| Rosa sherardii |
Description: In hedgerows in many areas, and on sand dunes or on heaths, this is one of the commonest species of wild native rose in Northern Ireland, second only to Rosa canina agg.
It is an erect-growing shrub with zig-zag stems, recognisable by the beautiful deep pink or pinky-purple (occasionally white) flowers, softly hairy blue-green leaves and a profusion of tiny turpentine-scented brown glands on the leaf undersides and fruit stalks.
