Description: This variety of Rumex sanguineus is characteristically flushed with a strong red coloration, and is consequently known as Bloody dock. Much rarer than the var. viridis of the same species, and generally thought to be an old introduction in Northern Ireland. It has been known for almost 90 years in a small area of north Co Down; occasional as a casual elsewhere. Found in open woodland or parkland.
