Description: Although known as wood vetch, this rather local species is found in heathy ground, on steep bushy banks, in thickets and scrub as well as open scrubby woodland. Most of its sites are around the coast.
It is a handsome perennial species, reaching 5 or 6 feet in height (to 200 cm), with the usual pinnate vetch-type leaf with tendrils; peaflowers, which are white veined with blue to a variable degree, produced in large one-sided spikes (racemes), and a fruit which is like a small black peapod.
