Trifolium arvense

Description: A native annual or biennial coastal species of sand dunes, rocky outcrops, stony embankments; showing evidence of some decline over the past fifty years or so.

The plant gets its name from the softly hairy oblong flower heads. The flowers themselves are quite small and it is the soft long teeth of the calyx (sepals) that give the inflorescence its texture and appearance.

All names: Trifolium arvense L.
