| Plants : Brassicaceae | Ferns and Flowering Plants |
Description: A very local, alien annual which is a frequent casual on rubbish dumps and waste ground in and around Belfast, but with older records from further afield in disturbed ground or as an arable weed.
The most obvious feature of this plant is the fruit which has a long beak on top of the fat 'pod'. The flowers are pale yellow.
The seed of this species is one of the constituents of table mustard, and its seedlings are sometimes used for the mustard in 'mustard and cress' green salad.
