Brassica oleracea L.

Cabbage

Description: The wild cabbage is a native species of maritime cliffs in Europe and perhaps southern Great Britain, but is absent from Ireland.

This wild European plant is the origin of all the many cultivated varieties of cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprout and kohl-rabi. These vegetables are occasionally found growing on rubbish dumps but they never persist and there are no reports of naturalized populations in Ireland.

All names: Brassica oleracea L.
