Nymphaea alba

Description: The white water-lily grows in lakes, mainly concentrated in the southern half of Northern Ireland. It is not rare, but is rather less frequent than the yellow water-lily (Nuphar lutea).

It is entirely aquatic, rooted in the mud at the lake bottom but with its rounded leaves and white many-petalled flowers floating on the surface. It will grow in less nutrient-rich water than Nuphar lutea.

All names: Nymphaea alba L.; Nymphaea occidentalis (Ostenf.) Moss; Castalia alba (L.) Wood
