Festuca ovina agg. L.

Sheep's Fescue [agg.]

Description: A common perennial species which forms small dense tufts, with stiff shoots and long narrow green or greyish leaves. The flower spikes can reach about a foot or more in height but the whole plant is usually much less than that. It is found in heaths, moorland and mountain grassland and a wide variety of other habitats. It grows from sea level up to the highest altitudes.

It is similar to Festuca rubra, but does not have the creeping rhizomes that characterise that species.
