Description: This is an aquatic plant rooted in the mud of lakes or slow streams, but with the leaves and flowers held above the water. The leaf is oval in shape and the small flowers are white or pinkish with three petals. While this species is very common the related narrow-leaved water plantain (Alisma lanceolatum) is less common and mainly found on the shores of Lough Neagh and Lough Beg.
